About
It is my goal to document every astronomical observatory of note in the state of Ohio. It’s not an insurmountable task and, actually, a pleasant one to pursue. The state has a rich history in astronomy though, as in many places, some of its oldest facilities have sunk into disrepair or have been lost altogether. Still, there are success stories. For now I’m hosting a mixture of old text and images gathered from a number of sources alongside my own newer contributions. Thanks for your interest in visiting here. — James Guilford

Where’s a map of each location, I could click on the ones closest to my county or area. I’m told there’s one in Munson,OH, but I don’t know the name of it. It’s in NE OH.

Thanks, Lorraine. Mapping each is a good suggestion I’ll probably add to the site as it develops. In the mean time, the Munson location is Geauga County’s impressive Observatory Park. Here’s a link to the park system’s Web site: http://www.geaugaparkdistrict.org/observatorypark.shtml

Are you still updating this site with information. I took my students to an observatory in Cridersville, OH (Westview Observatory) for a field trip, and it was a great experience! It’s an amateur observatory, but they did a good job and the kids really enjoyed it.
It’s called the Westview Observatory in Cridersville, OH.

I’m trying to help them get their name out there to encourage others to take advantage of it!

Thanks for the tip! We will look into it and perhaps add to the site. The site is still being organized and developed so changes can happen at any time. — JG
